Our lovely local village, this is charming place to visit. Here are some suggestions for what to do and how to get there:
Follow the meandering Loire en velo cycle path from La Fuye to Huismes. Bike up there one evening (it’s just 5km away from the house) and have dinner at Stéphane’s very casual restaurant/bar Café le Jeanne D’Arc (do call ahead to make sure it’s open: +33 2 47 58 92 53 ). There is a smarter restaurant next door, Le Petite Auberge, if you prefer more formal dining. Good food either way, but there is a lot to be said for sitting alfresco at Stéphane’s and watching the world go by (La Petite Auberge is indoor dining only).
Keep going a little bit further (4km from Huismes; 9km from La Fuye) and you reach the one of the Loire Valley’s most charming, secluded and lesser-known Châteaux: Château d’Ussé - the so-called Sleeping Beauty Château.
There is also a brilliant butcher in Huismes called Beugnet François that is well worth a visit. Family-run for three generations, the meat is excellent. (5 Place de la Marie)
