History of the House & Land

We are proud to be a Monument Historique - a designation given to certain national heritage sites that are important to France’s architectural and historical cultural heritage

Château de La Fuye is a charming, 15th century French fiefdom, or stronghold, which originally belonged to the Château de Chinon and Turpenay Abbey. Classified as a monument historique, the listed manor house is thought to date back to the 1400s and was built by Claude de Bottreau, whose family and descendants occupied in La Fuye until the late 18th century.

The house then underwent a succession of different owners, the most notable being the Carvello family, who own Château de Villandry. Madame Carvello fell in love with La Fuye and bought it in 1958 to be their family home. The main entrance gates which still remain, came from her family château in Provence.

It was purchased by the current owners in 2016.

The 10.7 acre truffle orchard plus 5 acres of private woodland and walled gardens, beautifully shield the house from the outside world.
